Rising Damp
Rising Damp is caused by dampness in a wall structure rising from the base of the wall and could be caused by a lack of damp proof course, failure of the damp proof course or bridging of a damp proof course by internal issues such as rubble. Other damp issues to look out for are leaking water pipes and condensation at the base of the wall due to poor air circulation.
Rising Damp: What to look for?
Damaged, discoloured tide marks, damaged and blistering plaster, rotting skirting boards and dampness on the wall similar to the image to the right.
Rising Damp: Property Treatment and Solutions
Chemical injection, electro-osmosis are the 2 main damp proofing systems we use. Cementitious and membrane tanking systems, are used in combination with the damp proof treatment, to provide dry usable basement/cellar rooms. It is important to identify the correct cause of a problem in order to treat it. Tanking is necessary when Penetrating Damp (as opposed to Rising Damp) travels through or down masonry. Where high ground or below ground areas (i.e. your basement / cellar) are affected, your surveyor will recommend a tanking system to fulfil your needs. We will ensure that all areas affected are identified and the best long-term solution will be provided. It is always best to contact a professional to undertake rising damp treatment and by choosing Boylan Property Care for your rising damp treatment you will be provided with a guarantee for all work undertaken.
